Ports of the region of Valparaíso mobilized 4.22 million tons in June and low 6.1% year-on-year
Meanwhile, the mobilized containers reached 212.265 TEUs, increasing 10% on the same month of 2021.
Total cargo mobilized and handled in the ports of the Valparaiso region (which includes the ports of Ventanas, Valparaiso and San Antonio, among others) during June was 4.22 million tons, registering a 6.1% decline in the annual comparison. Compared to the previous month, it registered a decrease of 0.79 million tons, meaning a fall of 15.8%, according to information provided by the National Institute of Statistics of Chile (INE)
Meanwhile, in the accumulated year 2022, a total of 26.69 million tons of cargo were mobilized in the ports of the region, an amount that registered a negative variation of 3.1%, which resulted in 0,85 million tonnes less compared to the same period last year.
Regarding the containers mobilized and handled reached 212,265 TEUs in June, growing 10.0% over the same period of the previous year, equivalent to an increase of 19,292 TEUs. Compared to June 2021, 40-foot containers scored a positive variation of 11.2%, adding 9,310 units. Meanwhile, 20-foot containers grew 2.5%, which meant 672 more units.
In relation to the accumulated year 2022, the containers reached a total of 1,346,817 TEUs, equivalent to an increase of 2.4%. The 40-foot containers showed a positive cumulative variation of 4.2%, while the 20-foot containers recorded a cumulative decrease of 8.7%.
Effective burden
The total cargo shipped decreased by 1.4%, equivalent to 0.02 million tonnes less than the same period last year. Compared to the previous month, the total cargo on board showed a negative variation of 5.1%.
In particular, cargo shipped abroad registered 1.16 tons, a figure that recorded a decrease of 1.3% compared to June 2021. While, compared to the month immediately before, it fell 3.3%, subtracting 0.04 million tons. Meanwhile, the cabotage services shipped totaled 0.26 million tons, a figure that decreased 1.8% compared to the same month of 2021.
In relation to the total cargo landed, it recorded 2.78 million tons, recording a decrease of 7.0%, which meant a decline of 0.21 million tons compared to the same month in 2021. Compared to the previous month, the total cargo landed registered a decrease of 17.2%, which translated into 0.58 million tonnes less.
On the other hand, landings from abroad totalled 2.70 million tons, a figure that decreased by 8.5% compared to the same month in 2021, subtracting 0.25 million tons. The cabotage cargo landed mobilized 0.08 million tons during the month of June, advancing 115.8% in the annual comparison.
Regarding handled cargo, 0.02 million tons were mobilized for the month of June, registering a negative variation of 66.1%. Compared to May 2022, the handled cargo showed a decrease of 85.7%, meaning a decline of 0.14 million tons.
Types of cargo
Compared to the total for foreign trade, the containerized cargo represented 51.6%, reaching 1.99 million tons, registering a positive variation of 2.4%, which translated to 0.05 million tons more, compared to the same month of the previous year. In relation to the total containerized cargo, 50.4% corresponded to exports, equivalent to 1.00 million tons, while the remaining 49.6% was for imports, registering 0.99 million tons for this period.
The other types of cargo mobilized together reached a total of 1.87 million tons, equivalent to 48.4% of total foreign trade, with a decrease of 14.4% reaching a decrease of 0.31 million tons as noted in June 2021. The cumulative figure for the year reached 11.86 million tons, a figure that decreased 4.6% compared to 2021. The cargo corresponding to liquid-gaseous bulk accounted for 0.93 million tons, constituting 24.1% of foreign trade, registering a negative variation of 22.9%.
Meanwhile, the corresponding bulk cargo reached 0.65 million tons, representing 16.9% of the mobilized, registering a decrease of 2.8%, subtracting 0.02 million tons compared to the same period last year. Finally, loose or general cargo totalled 0.29 million tons, and accounted for 7.4% of foreign trade, decreasing 6.2%, compared to June 2021.
