Navarra promotes its wines in Germany, its main foreign market
Twelve wineries participate in the events organized by the Regulatory Council of the DO Navarra.
The German cities of Berlin and Frankfurt have hosted this week the events organized by the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin Navarre with the participation of the wineries: Tandem, Bodega Inurrieta, Viña Magaña, Bodegas Manzanos Campanas, Bodegas Castillo de Monjardín, Bodega Nekeas, Bodegas Ochoa, Bodegas Pago de Larrainzar, Finca Albret, Bodegas San Martín and Bodega de Sarría.
The route of the Denomination of Origin Navarre in Germany began on Monday in Berlin with the celebration of a winery hall attended by numerous professionals in the wine sector, including prescribers, buyers and sommeliers.
The event began with a master class on the D.O. Navarra given by the renowned sommelier Christine Scharrer who proposed an interesting tour of the region through the wines of the participating wineries that were received with great satisfaction by the tasting assistants. The next day, Frankfurt took the baton and hosted an event also aimed at the professional public that highly valued the white, rosé and red wines that had the opportunity to taste. “Germany is one of the main destination markets for the export of our Designation of Origin wines and in it we have reinforced our efforts to make Navarre more known every day”, comments the manager of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra, Elena Arraiza.
Last year nearly two million litres of D.O. Navarra wine were marketed in Germany. This figure represented an increase of more than 19% compared to the previous year and placed the German country as the main market in sales volume of the Denomination of Origin Navarra abroad, above China and the United Kingdom. In 2021, the quotas reached in 2019 were exceeded, before the declaration of the pandemic caused by covid-19.
The promotional strategy planned by the Regulatory Council in Germany will be completed in October with the visit to the Denomination of Origin Navarre of a group of professionals who will travel the region to meet first-hand the wineries, their wines and protagonists. After holding a reception at the headquarters of Olite, they will take the pulse of the Denomination through the wineries participating in the campaign for four days.
